Santa Fe Mourns the Loss of Esteemed Accountant and Philanthropist, John E. Barraclough Jr.

Santa Fe, NM – The community of Santa Fe is in mourning following the passing of John E. Barraclough Jr., a revered local accountant and philanthropist, who died on June 29, 2024, at the age of 79 after a valiant fight against Parkinson’s disease.

John E. Barraclough Jr., known for his brilliant mind, generous heart, and infectious laughter, leaves behind a legacy that stretches far beyond the realms of accounting and business. His life was a testament to the power of dedication, love, and humor, enriching the lives of everyone around him.

Born on August 13, 1944, in Venice, Florida, to John Barraclough and Ida Jadels, John moved to New Mexico, where he eventually became a pillar of the Santa Fe business community. After graduating from Bernalillo High School and earning his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from New Mexico State University in 1966, John embarked on a career that would see him become one of the most respected professionals in his field.

In 1985, John founded Barraclough & Associates P.C., a firm that under his leadership became synonymous with integrity, excellence, and community service. His commitment to his clients went beyond mere business transactions; they were considered part of his extended family. This ethos remained at the heart of the firm until its merger with Carr, Riggs, & Ingram, LLC, in January 2020.

John’s professional accolades include memberships in the New Mexico Society of Certified Public Accountants, the National Association of Public Accountants, and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He was also a distinguished Fellow of the American Board of Forensic Accounting.

Beyond his professional achievements, John was deeply committed to giving back to the community. He served as Treasurer for the Foundation for Santa Maria El Mirador and sat on the advisory Board of Directors for Allan Houser, Inc. His philanthropic efforts were widespread, with generous donations to numerous nonprofit organizations throughout northern New Mexico, embodying his belief in the importance of community support and engagement.

John’s personal life was filled with as much love and dedication as his professional one. He and his first wife, Nancy Novelle White, adopted five children, creating a loving family that would be his pride and joy. Despite facing personal losses, including the passing of his daughter Johnyce and his wives Nancy and Deborah, John’s spirit and love for his family never waned.

John is survived by his children Joel, Johnyne, Johntel, and Jaimie, and his cherished grandchildren Lexi, Rose, Greyson, Anastasia, Riley, and Zoey, who will carry forward his legacy of love, laughter, and generosity.

The Santa Fe community will come together to celebrate John’s life and contributions at a service to be held at the First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner, NM, on August 31 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Santa Maria El Mirador, a cause close to John’s heart.
