John Barraclough’s Obituary (2024) – Albuquerque, NM

Remembering John Edward Barraclough, Jr.: A Legacy of Love, Laughter, and Dedication

Santa Fe Mourns the Loss of Esteemed Accountant and Philanthropist, John E. Barraclough, Jr.

Santa Fe, NM – The community of Santa Fe is in mourning following the passing of John Edward Barraclough, Jr., a revered accountant and philanthropist, who died on June 29, 2024, at the age of 79. Barraclough’s battle with Parkinson’s disease came to a peaceful end, leaving behind a legacy that will be remembered for generations to come.

Born on August 13, 1944, in Venice, Florida, to John Barraclough and Ida Jadels, John Jr. was a man of exceptional intellect and compassion. His journey from Bernalillo High School to earning a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from New Mexico State University in 1966 set the stage for a remarkable career that would impact many.

In 1985, Barraclough founded Barraclough & Associates P.C. in Santa Fe, a firm that under his leadership until January 2020, became synonymous with integrity, excellence, and an unwavering commitment to community service. The firm’s merger with Carr, Riggs, & Ingram, LLC marked the culmination of nearly fifty years of dedicated service to financial institutions, nonprofit entities, and various governmental agencies.

John’s professional accolades include memberships in the New Mexico Society of Certified Public Accountants, The National Association of Public Accountants, and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He was also a distinguished Fellow of the American Board of Forensic Accounting.

Beyond his professional achievements, John was deeply committed to giving back to the community. He served as Treasurer for the Foundation for Santa Maria El Mirador and on the advisory Board of Directors for Allan Houser, Inc. His philanthropic spirit was evident in his encouragement of team members to engage in community service, leading to significant contributions to numerous local nonprofits and community events.

John’s personal life was filled with love and laughter. He married Nancy Novelle White in 1966, and together they adopted five children. Despite the loss of his daughter Johnyce, first wife Nancy, and second wife Deborah, John’s spirit of resilience and love continued to shine through his surviving children and grandchildren, who were his utmost pride and joy.

John Barraclough, Jr.’s legacy is not only in the successful career and the businesses he built but in the countless lives he touched through his generosity, humor, and kindness. His laughter, which was as infectious as his dedication to his family and community, will be sorely missed.

Services to honor John’s life and contributions will be held at First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner, NM, on August 31 at 11 AM. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Santa Maria El Mirador, a testament to John’s lifelong commitment to supporting those in need.
