The Laredo Independent School District (LISD) has been recognized with the prestigious Certificate of Achievement for Excellence Award in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada. This award is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting, highlighting the district’s commitment to transparency and full disclosure in its financial management.

Flor Ayala, LISD Assistant Superintendent of Finance, Business Services and Accountability, expressed her pride in receiving this recognition, stating that it is a testament to the district’s dedication to providing clear and comprehensive financial information to its stakeholders. The award is a reflection of the hard work and professionalism of the entire accounting staff at LISD.

The ACFR award is judged by an impartial panel to meet the highest standards of the program, emphasizing the importance of effectively communicating the district’s financial story to its users. Dr. Sylvia G. Rios, LISD Superintendent, emphasized the significance of this achievement for the district, highlighting the commitment of the Board of Trustees and the financial management department staff to ensuring transparency in the district’s financial activities.

Established in 1945, the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting program aims to encourage state and local governments to exceed the minimum requirements of accounting principles and prepare comprehensive financial reports that demonstrate transparency and full disclosure. The recognition of LISD with this award underscores the district’s commitment to excellence in financial reporting.
