Autodesk Will Not Restate Financial Statements After Accounting Probe
Autodesk, a leading provider of 3D design, engineering, and construction software, has announced that it will not be restating several years of financial statements following an audit committee investigation into potential accounting misconduct.
The company revealed the results of its probe on Friday, after launching an internal investigation on April 1 regarding its free cash flow and non-GAAP operating margin practices for fiscal years 2022-24. Despite finding that certain decisions related to discretionary spending, collections, and accounts payable may have impacted reported financial metrics, Autodesk has determined that no restatement or adjustment of financial statements is necessary.
According to Autodesk, the actions taken were not intended to influence compensation outcomes for executives, although they may have affected reported free cash flow and operating margins. In response to the investigation, the audit committee has recommended a review of financial communication processes, assessment of organizational functions, and the adoption of enhanced policies and processes.
As a result of the probe, Autodesk has announced changes to its executive team, with Chief Financial Officer Deborah Clifford transitioning to the role of chief strategy officer and Elizabeth Rafael appointed as interim CFO by the board. The company also disclosed that it voluntarily reported the matter to the Securities and Exchange Commission and is working towards submitting its delayed 2024 annual report.
The news of Autodesk’s investigation and subsequent actions has sparked interest and raised questions about the company’s financial practices and governance. Stay tuned for further developments as Autodesk continues to address the findings of the probe and implement changes to strengthen its financial reporting processes.
