Abu Dhabi’s Department of Community Development Launches Medeem Model for Women’s Weddings
Abu Dhabi’s Department of Community Development (DCD) is revolutionizing the wedding industry with the launch of the Medeem Model for Women’s Weddings. This innovative initiative aims to promote simpler ceremonies focused on traditional Emirati values, in an effort to reduce the financial burden of extravagant weddings on young couples.
Studies have shown that high wedding costs often deter many Emiratis from marrying or cause them to delay their weddings. Dr. Laila Al Hyas, executive director of the Community Development Sector at DCD, emphasized the importance of shifting the perception of weddings as reflections of social status. “Today’s youth understand that treasuring life’s pivotal moments is more important than extravagant spending,” she said, urging parents to embrace simpler wedding celebrations to alleviate financial strain.
The Medeem Model for Women’s Weddings offers various wedding packages based on budget and guest count, promoting financial planning and accommodating multiple brides in a single ceremony. Traditional costumes are encouraged to cut costs, blending authentic Emirati culture with modern elements.
To participate in the Medeem Model, couples must be Emirati, with the husband being a citizen or resident of Abu Dhabi. Both spouses must complete the premarital program provided by the soon-to-be-launched Medeem Center for Family Flourishing. Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, chairman of DCD, highlighted that the model aims to avoid financial burdens that can impact a couple’s happiness and stability, offering a balance between tradition and modernity.
With packages catering to different financial capacities and guest numbers, couples can choose to have their weddings at home, in Medeem-benefited wedding halls, or government halls. The Medeem digital platform allows for easy selection of a convenient date, making the wedding planning process seamless and stress-free.
The Medeem Model for Women’s Weddings is set to revolutionize the wedding industry in Abu Dhabi, promoting simpler ceremonies that focus on love, tradition, and financial responsibility.
