Jamaica Customs Agency Maintains ISO 9001:2015 Certification with Enhanced Service Delivery
Jamaica Customs Agency (JCA) Maintains ISO 9001:2015 Certification for Quality Service Delivery
Just over a year since the Jamaica Customs Agency (JCA) received its ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System certification, the agency has implemented various mechanisms to ensure the certification is retained and to provide exceptional quality service delivery to both staff and external stakeholders.
ISO 9001 is an international standard that specifies requirements for a quality management system (QMS) and is used by organizations to demonstrate their ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer and regulatory requirements. The JCA achieved its certification on April 18, 2023, after successfully completing certification audits conducted by the National Certification Body of Jamaica (NCBJ).
Sean Barrow, Quality Assurance Manager within the JCA, highlighted the measures put in place by the agency to maintain and improve its Quality Management System. He emphasized the importance of continually improving the system through effective management reviews and ongoing capacity building initiatives for internal quality auditors.
Stakeholders, such as Leon Smith, Managing Director of GOMax Customs Brokers, have praised the JCA for its improved service outputs since obtaining the ISO 9001:2015 certification. Smith noted the agency’s efficiencies across its operations, particularly at the Sangster International Airport, and commended the quick turnaround time in moving visitors and goods through the airport and ports.
Smith also acknowledged the JCA’s efforts in advancing its services for all stakeholders and expressed support for the agency’s continuous improvement and service excellence initiatives.
The JCA continues to seek ways to enhance its systems, processes, and procedures to ensure customers receive excellent service delivery consistent with international standards and best practices.
