Marietta City Council Approves 2025 Tax Budget and Creates Financial Crisis Fund
Marietta City Council made progress towards passing the 2025 tax budget and took proactive steps to create a fund to assist the city during future financial crises.
During a public hearing for the city’s 2025 tax budget, Ward 1 Councilman and Finance Committee Chair Michael Scales highlighted the budget’s positive aspects. He commended City Director of Budget and Purchasing Mitch Dimmerling for keeping the budget in the black at $102,000 for 2025, a first in the city’s history. Scales emphasized the importance of aligning everything quickly to avoid potential budget cuts in the future.
In addition to the tax budget, Council also introduced Resolution No. 22 (24-25) to establish a Budget Stabilization Account. This account, funded by interest revenue from city investments, aims to provide a financial safety net for the city in times of economic uncertainty. Council unanimously passed the resolution and ordinance related to the fund.
Furthermore, Council conducted the second reading of Resolution No. 19 (24-25) to adopt the 2025 tax budget, with a special council meeting scheduled for further discussion on July 11.
These proactive measures demonstrate Marietta City Council’s commitment to financial stability and preparedness for any future challenges.
