Judge criticizes bankrupt Giuliani for inability to retain an accountant

Judge Slams Rudy Giuliani’s Failure to Comply with Bankruptcy Deadlines and Bookkeeping Issues

Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani faced harsh criticism from a bankruptcy court judge on Monday for his failure to comply with deadlines and maintain proper financial records in his Chapter 11 bankruptcy case. Judge Sean Lane expressed concerns over Giuliani’s messy financial records and warned that continued non-compliance with court orders could have serious consequences.

During the three-hour-long hearing, creditors of Giuliani argued for the appointment of a trustee to take control of his finances and ensure timely filing of monthly operating reports. Giuliani’s lawyers cited difficulties in finding accounting professionals willing to assist and explained that their current bookkeeper had been ill.

Rachel Strickland, a lawyer representing individuals defamed by Giuliani, pointed out the red flags in his financial management, including the inability to retain a bookkeeper or accountant. She emphasized the importance of holding Giuliani accountable for his actions, especially considering the defamatory statements made against her clients.

The creditors’ committee pushed for the immediate appointment of a trustee, citing Giuliani’s dishonesty, incompetence, and breach of fiduciary duty. They highlighted the lack of transparency in Giuliani’s reporting and the need to protect the interests of creditors.

Giuliani’s attorneys opposed the motion to appoint a trustee, arguing that it would be harmful to the creditors and punitive towards the 80-year-old former mayor. The judge did not make any rulings during the hearing, with the next one scheduled for July 10.

The ongoing saga of Giuliani’s bankruptcy case continues to unfold, with the judge expressing serious concerns over his financial management and the potential need for outside intervention to ensure compliance with court orders.
