Criminal Case Against Mendocino County Auditor Chamise Cubbison Scheduled to Begin on July 25
The long-awaited criminal case against suspended Mendocino County Auditor Chamise Cubbison is finally set to begin on July 25 after weeks of delay and the release of internal documents. District Attorney David Eyster has filed charges against Cubbison for felony misuse of public funds, alleging that she enabled the county’s former Payroll Manager to receive $68,000 in extra pay during the Covid pandemic.
Cubbison, however, maintains her innocence and claims that the additional pay agreement was made before she took office. Her attorney, Chris Andrian, is reviewing the documents provided by the county and remains confident in Cubbison’s innocence.
Eyster hired a special prosecutor from Sonoma County to handle the case, and both sides are currently reviewing the extensive documentation. Cubbison’s supporters believe that Eyster is targeting her for challenging his expenses and spending practices.
The case has been a point of contention in Mendocino County politics, with Cubbison’s suspension and the subsequent merger of the Auditor’s office with the Treasurer-Tax Collector office causing upheaval. Cubbison has also filed a civil lawsuit against the Board of Supervisors, alleging that her due process rights were violated.
As the case moves forward, all eyes will be on the preliminary hearing scheduled for July 25, which will provide insight into the future of Cubbison’s career and the outcome of the legal battle. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
